Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME)

DSEC, a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), is a shipbuilding engineering company with around 600 engineers supplying ship design, design-oriented procurement, production consulting and inspection to shipyards worldwide. For the ship design process system of DSEC, DNV Software carried out Phase 1 of a pilot implementation project from April to September 2006.

In August 2008, we delivered Phase 2 of the complete solution, the aim of which is to provide DSEC with a ship design engineering anagement system covering all its design programs, documents and resources.

The design programs for detail, vendor and production design contain more than 3,000 drawings altogether. For detail design, around 350 drawings are involved including interdependencies with respect to both time and drawing information. A business process template (list of activity) is associated with each drawing, adding up to more than 3,500 activities to manage within a single project. The main requirement of DSEC is to be able to share the progress of design programs and provide each person’s work list with notification through this system.

In addition to the project planning and monitoring, the solution includes seamless integration of all project documents – e.g. letters, faxes, e-mails, comments, and revision reports. Separate modules for load analysis, outside order and payment management are also included.
